About

Musiccreative.org is an evolving creative music resource for musicians and listeners. At the moment resources are divided into two categories, Rhythm Blog and Monthly Meeting. New categories will be added to include learning tools for things such as ear training, sight-reading, and other subjects to be discovered at a later date.
As someone with dyslexia, I learned at an early age how to adapt and figure out my own ways of learning. To some extent the same has been true with my learning of music. Since I can’t always learn musical concepts in a standard way, despite having had some great teachers, I’m constantly coming up with unique ways to teach myself and others. This site will be a new way for me to share processes and ideas with other musicians who might need a fresh way to look at or think about a topic. My posts will also hopefully help other folks to come up with there own ideas and tools.
I live in New York City where I am constantly pushed and inspired by a mass of great music and musicians. I am always reminded of things that I want to explore and focus on to improve my abilities, from large tasks to small kernels. I hope that these offerings can be helpful to your pursuits in music as well.

About Rhythm Blog //

Rhythm Blog

Rhythm Blog is a collection of blog posts meant to serve as a catalysts for ideas, inspiration, and small concepts on the general topic of rhythm. Most posts will be things that I have used for my own musical development and/or that I have used with my students. I work on these ideas usually behind a drum set, as a composer, or in my mind. However, no matter what your instrument, I hope you find creative ways to apply these ideas to your situation. Posts will be subdivided into sub categories of Fundamental, Moderate, and Advanced. If a post belongs somewhere in between I will assign it to the two that are closest. Have fun!

About Monthly Meeting //

Monthly Meeting

Monthly Meeting began in November 2009 as an online monthly music series featuring a different collective of composers and musicians every month and new compositions written or arranged for the occasion. The compositions were rehearsed and recorded in a single session and posted for listening. This short time to rehearse and record presented an informative challenge for all involved.
Musicians and composers were drawn from a large pool of talented acquaintances mostly from Philadelphia, where I lived at the time, and on occassion New York. My hope was that this would be a valued tradition for musicians, composers, and listeners in Philadelphia and elsewhere.
The monthly pace of recording was interupted in the summer of 2010 as my family and I relocated to New York. September 2010 was the last session for the time being as I figure out where, how, and if the series continues.

If you’ve enjoyed listening to the music posted here it would be great to here from you. If anyone has any ideas or resourses that might enable monthly meeting to continue, please let me know. If you’re a composer without access to musicians, ability to record, and you are interested in participating via skype, send an email to doug (at) notnicerecords.com.

Many thanks to everybody that took part!
Check back often for other listening and new features….
